s if I don’t have enough craft projects on my plate, I have gone and signed up for a new CAL/KAL. I really shouldn’t take on more projects since my craft to-do list is longer than Santa’s naughty & nice list, but this one looks to be a whole lot of fun, so I couldn’t resist.
The Harry Potter Knitting and Crochet House Cup (HPKCHC) Ravelry group starts its new school year on September 1, and I have been admitted as a first year student. Yay
The Headmistress put a lot of thought and work into this. It looks like it is going to be a ton of fun!
First, each member is sorted by the sorting hat into a house (fingers crossed for Gryffindor or Slytherin). I know complete and utter opposites, but I love the Gryffindor gang and have a soft spot for Snape, the Malfoys, and Bellatrix!
Once we are in our houses, we will have the opportunity to choose “classes” we want to attend. Each class has certain requirements we need to fulfill to pass, and each class offers points toward our house cup. The coolest thing is that these requirements are in the form of crochet and knitting patterns. For example, last semester’s Charms class project was “Geminio, The Duplication Charm“. The requirements were as follows: “Geminio is used to make copies of a single item. In Deathly Hallows, we discover that copies of Gryffindor’s sword have been made this way. So, your task this month is to make duplicates of something. Hats, mini socks, scarves, bookmarks, whatever. Do it in the right colours and you can go to the movies matching up to all your friends!” Too cool!
We are also required to pass one “O.W.L.”. These are much harder projects that require more than a month to complete. This one has me a little worried. 🙂
In addition to the classes and our O.W.L., we can take part in Quidditch, which are completely different, but pretty, easy projects. The more we make, the more points our house gets.
If you are on Ravelry and want to join in the fun, search Harry Potter for the group. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up in the same house! My Ravelry name is, Missie Zee.
If you are not on Ravelry but want to see some of the fun, check out the blog.
So for now, until I am sorted, I will be learning all of the rules and requirements for my first year at Hogwarts, plus finishing up my WIPs to get ready for the fun on September 1. I just hope I can find my way to Platform 9 3/4!
