Can you believe summer is only a few weeks away?! Where has this year gone?

If you are like I am, you are trying to figure out crafty stuff to do this summer while not spending a lot of money. Well, I found a super fun way you can get your craft on and not spend much, if any, money.

Free Michaels Craft Classes

Last weekend I was in my local Michaels craft store, which is usually where I spend my weekends, and I met one of the jewelry instructors. She explained to me a little about the classes they offer at Michaels, but also told me that they are offering free craft classes all summer long! Anything free makes me happy.

I went home and pulled up the Michaels website and clicked on the Classes and Events button, which shows all of the classes they offer. I chose “View In-Store Classes” and searched for my closest store by my zip code. I am fortunate that I have several local Michaels stores to choose from, but I stuck with the one that is less than 5 minutes from my home. Now you know why I spend my weekends there. 🙂

Classes

At my local store they are offering 18 free classes throughout the summer. That is pretty awesome! They are also available in various craft mediums:

  • painting
  • drawing
  • cake decorating
  • jewelry
  • floral
  • paper crafts
  • planning

I didn’t see any yarn crafts, but they can be a little more difficult and require more one-on-one attention.

I couldn’t find a way to only view the free classes, so you will have to look at all of the classes or search by a specific craft category.  Below is a screen snap of the June and July jewelry classes at my local store.

You can see the free classes have $0.00 next to them. And if you want to read a description of the class just click on the name of the class. It brings up a description and a photo of what you’ll be making. The Boho braided bracelet is pretty cool!

There are also special classes for teens, kids, and families, which is really nice.

Register

You do need to sign up for the classes and give your name and email address so your spot is held. You can do that online or in store, but note that there are only a certain amount of spaces (most are capped at 10), so I’d sign up sooner than later.

When you sign up and finalize your order your space is deleted from the total seats. You can see the free teen jewelry class already has a couple of people signed up, so there are only 8 spots left.

Supplies

Once your order is placed you will get an email with the supplies list. You will most likely have to spend some money on supplies, but Michaels does offer a coupon when you sign up for the class. You can also buy the supplies before with their weekly coupons.

Or, if you are like I am, you have a house full of supplies from various craft mediums. I am pretty sure I could scrounge up the majority of the supplies just from my craft room. 🙂 I am going to have to buy a couple of things for my jewelry class in August, but that won’t be too bad.

If you look at all of classes Michaels offers they are really reasonably priced. The Kids Club classes are only $2 and Camp Creativity classes, as of today, are on sale for $4! You can’t beat that. The knit and crochet classes always tend to be more expensive, but as those classes go they really aren’t that expensive. And if you already have the supplies it isn’t bad at all.

Let me know if you take advantage of any of these free classes. I’m looking forward to learning some new crafts this summer!

I am not affiliated with Michaels in any way. Just a happy crafty customer. 🙂
