A few years ago the cactus was THE item of the year. The owl, the fox, the alpaca, and the unicorn have all had their moment in the sun, but I was drawn specifically to the cactus.
Naturally, I was a few years late jumping on the bandwagon.
Crocheting My Own Cactus
I crocheted this mini cactus one Saturday afternoon while binge-watching the Netflix series, GLOW. One thing you will notice very quickly is that I am a Netflix and Hulu junkie. I cut the cable cord years ago so this is how I get my TV fix. If you love the ’80s and women’s wrestling, or just want an enjoyable show that makes you laugh and cry, check out GLOW. It is my new favorite Netflix series, which includes Stranger Things and Grace & Frankie.
The recipient of this little cutie loved it so much that she put it as the only plant in her giant, and I mean giant, greenhouse on her desk, which makes me laugh every time I go into her office because this baby is not that big!
Want to crochet a mini cactus of your own? Here are the supplies I used:
Mini Crocheted Cactus
free pattern
Vanna’s Choice yarn: Fern
Vanna’s Choice yarn: Taupe
Caron Simply Soft yarn: Pink
Clover crochet hook: Size H, 5.0mm
Michaels clay flower pot, size 2″
Yarn needle
Polyfil
Elmer’s Glue
Crafting with Cat Hair tip: I glued the “dirt” part of the cactus along the sides and bottom of the flower pot to make it sturdier. I don’t think it is required, but I worried about it being moved around a lot and falling out of the pot.

As much as I love fiber art, I love music even more. Below is a crafty mini mixtape of inspired songs for this project. Maybe one of these songs will help to inspire your project too! You can follow along with all of the crafty mini mixtapes, here.
