Hi, I’m Melissa, a lifelong maker, craft enthusiast, and child of the ’80s.
I started Crafting with Cat Hair in 2006 as a place to share my craft and DIY projects after learning to crochet from the wonderful world of craft blogs. I never expected this little corner of the internet to lead to an online handmade business and features in craft publications, including Interweave.
This blog is now archived. After 18 years, I’ve moved my creative journey over to Stitch & Purr, where you can find new projects and posts. This space stays up as an archive of where it all started, so feel free to browse and enjoy what’s here.
What I Made
My first love is fiber art. I primarily crochet, hand sew, and cross-stitch, with the occassional DIY project when inspiration struck.
I was especially drawn to simple, affordable projects and retro inspiration, from library books and vintage magazines to music, movies, television, and thee colorful spirit of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.
My hope is that these archived projects, tutorials, and resources can still spark a little creativity and help you make something meaningful without spending a fortune.

Why “Crafting with Cat Hair”?
the name came from my first cat, Drusilla, who black fur always had a way of getting into every project. Later, my Ragdoll, Daphne, carried on the tradition. I now share my home with Violet, a very sweet torbico girl. The motto still holds true – into every craft a little cat hair must fall.
I’m also committed to avoiding animal fibers and products when I can. Most of the materials I used and recommend are acrylic, cotton, or synthetic, and I only shared supplies I genuinely liked.
